Well, even though I'm trying to be your favorite online inspiration, there are a lot of resources out there that are far more comprehensive.
I use several of them depending on my mission.
Base Layout:
When I need a new base layout or just want some inspiration I normally go to either google.com or clashofclansbuilder.com.
I search for the type of base I need (Farming, Clan War, Trophy Hunter) and at the Town Hall level that I´m currently at.
When using google I look at pictures and videos if available.
When using clashofclansbuilder.com I look at the base layout and how many times its been attacked and the rating (stars received).
In both cases I take a picture of the base if I like it for later use.
When I´m ready to use it I go to Photos on the iPAD and have the picture selected.
I then go to CoC and enters Village Edit mode. I can now see the picture by double clicking the home button and without leaving CoC I just see it briefly and returns to CoC without loosing the progress in the village edit.
